trans-Piceid, also known as polydatin or piceid, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as stilbene glycosides. Stilbene glycosides are compounds structurally characterized by the presence of a carbohydrate moiety glycosidically linked to the stilbene skeleton. Thus, trans-piceid is considered to be an aromatic polyketide lipid molecule. It is shown to mediate a cytotoxic action on colorectal cancer cells by inducing cell arrest and apoptosis . trans-Piceid is a very hydrophobic molecule, practically insoluble (in water), and relatively neutral. Outside of the human body, trans-Piceid is found, on average, in the highest concentration within a few different foods, such as grape wines, berry wines, and common grapes and in a lower concentration in chocolates, lentils, and peanuts. trans-Piceid has also been detected, but not quantified in, several different foods, such as alcoholic beverages, fruits, green vegetables, and sorghums. This could make trans-piceid a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods. While it is isolated from the bark of *Picea sitchensis* or *Polygonum cuspidatum*, trans-Piceid may be detected in grape, peanut, hop cones, red wines, hop pellets, cocoa-containing products, chocolate products and many daily diets . Polydatin, or Piceid, is a natural precursor and glycoside form of resveratrol with a monocrystalline structure. trans-Piceid possesses anti-inflammatory, immunoregulatory, anti-oxidative and anti-tumor activities.
