Silicristin, also known as silicristin, inn or silymarin II, belongs to the class of organic compounds known as 2-arylbenzofuran flavonoids. These are phenylpropanoids containing the 2-phenylbenzofuran moiety. Silicristin is an extremely weak basic (essentially neutral) compound (based on its pKa). Outside of the human body, Silicristin has been detected, but not quantified in, coffee and coffee products and green vegetables. This could make silicristin a potential biomarker for the consumption of these foods.
